I want my research to reach people that otherwise wouldn’t engage with issues of climate or environmental justice. I would like to make it accessible to students like those I used to teach and their families. I want my research to help inspire all people to gain courage and act in partnership alongside the most vulnerable, but especially to encourage those who have idly watched this disaster unfold, to become accountable and take action. I also imagine my research continuing to pry open the historically colorblind environmental field and shine a light on environmental and structural racism, and then I want to help create tools to dismantle those systems. My research must be critically engaged with community which will reframe the idea of an “expert” and who can create knowledge. I hope my research will effect change as part of a whole movement to inspire mass mobilization and a sense of urgency. It is also imperative that this is done with an invitation of kindness and a sense of warmth.
